Congressman Raja Speaks to the Significance of the FDA’s Ban on Juul E-Cigarettes
A day after the Food and Drug Administration announced a ban on the sale of Juul vaping products, Congressman Raja spoke to the significance of this decision on combating youth vaping and addiction in his role as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy.
Congressman Raja has been investigating the youth vaping epidemic since 2019 as part of his work on the House Oversight Committee, and said that Juul’s marketing strategies towards young people is the main way Juul has differentiated itself from many other tobacco companies, according to the research of his subcommittee.
“In my opinion, it was kind of an earthquake in the industry,” the congressman said of the announcement. “I think this is not the last word on this particular issue. I did not expect this decision necessarily.”
