HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN ENDORSES RAJA FOR CONGRESS
Only candidate endorsed in 8th District race by nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization
SCHAUMBURG, IL. (August 25, 2016) — The Human Rights Campaign, the largest national LGBTQ civil rights organization, is endorsing Raja Krishnamoorthi in this year’s open-seat race in the 8th Congressional District of Illinois that includes west and northwest suburbs of Chicago.
Raja is the only candidate in this race to receive the support of the HRC.
The Human Rights Campaign represents more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. HRC’s goal is a world where LGBTQ people are ensured of their basic equal rights where they can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.
“I’m honored to receive support from one of the most important organizations in America advocating on behalf of the millions of LGBTQ Americans,” Krishnamoorthi said. “The LGBTQ community has made great strides in the last decade to ensure the Constitution protects all of us equally, but much more still needs to be done. I look forward to working with HRC to continue the fight for equality.”
The son of immigrants, Raja grew up in Illinois. After college and law school, he became issues director for Barack Obama’s successful U.S. Senate campaign. He also served as a founding prosecutor in Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s anti-corruption unit.
A lifelong progressive, Raja is running for Congress to stand up for middle class families and fight against attempts by House Republicans to diminish women’s reproductive rights and to cut Social Security and Medicare that are benefits his parents and millions of other Americans rely on.
