Local Democrats Slam Trump’s Birthright Proposal

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Congressional Democrats from Illinois are condemning President Donald Trump’s threat to use an Executive Order to bar the children of undocumented immigrants from being recognized as U.S. Citizens.
Suburban Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi is the son of immigrants.
“I would not be a member of the US congress if this particular birthright citizenship were eliminated,” he said.
And he firmly says any attempt by President Trump to invalidate birthright citizenship would be unconstitutional. It’s a principal that’s been in place since after the Civil War.
Evanston Rep. Jan Schakowsky feels the President is mainly trying to scare people and score political points.
“The idea that people born here in the United States of America, that their citizenship would be challenged, and that they would not be able to enjoy the privileges of all other citizens, this is part of this fear campaign,” she said.
Chicago Rep. Danny Davis said the President proposes taking away freedoms people have fought for, for 200 years.
