More Local Support of Raja for Congress
Three village trustees and local leaders endorse Raja in final week before primary election
SCHAUMBURG, Ill., (March 10, 2016) – Raja Krisnamoorthi’s momentum continues to build with just days before the March 15th Democratic primary to fill the seat in Congress for the 8th District of Illinois that includes the northwest Chicago suburbs.
More local elected leaders announced their support today of Raja, joining more than 100 other local leaders, prominent Democratic officials, labor unions and progressive groups backing Raja for Congress.
Herb Porter, a Hanover Park Trustee, along with Hoffman Estates Trustees Mike Gaeta and Karen Mills all endorsed Raja to replace Rep. Tammy Duckworth in Congress.
“I’m proud that so many local leaders throughout the 8th District of Illinois are supporting my campaign to go to Washington where I will fight to grow and strengthen the middle class,” Raja said. “We will work together to make sure that Social Security and Medicare are protected, common sense gun law get enacted and women’s health decisions only get made by them and their doctor.”
Raja is “the best candidate, hands down,” wrote the Chicago Tribune in its endorsement of Raja for Congress, making it a clean sweep of Chicago area newspaper endorsements for Raja with the Daily Herald and Chicago Sun-Times also endorsing him.
Leading progressive groups such as Sierra Club and two leading good government groups – Citizen Action/Illinois and the Independent Voters of Illinois Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO) – have all endorsed Raja as the leading progressive candidate to replace Rep.Tammy Duckworth to represent the 8th District in Congress.
In addition, Raja has a long list of labor unions endorsing him in the March 15 Democratic primary, including the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 881, Illinois Education Association, Amalgamated Transit Union, the United Steelworkers, the Ironworkers, the Illinois State Council of Machinists, the Air Line Pilots Association, the Transport Workers Union, the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 2, and the Office & Professional Employees International Union Local 45.
