Raja Endorsed by IVI-IPO, Progressive Stalwart and Advocate for Good Government
SCHAUMBURG, Ill., (January 29, 2016) — The Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO), a good government group and prominent progressive organization, today endorsed U.S. House Democratic candidate Raja Krishnamoorthi for the 8th District of Illinois that includes the northwest Chicago suburbs.
The backing from the IVI-IPO follows the endorsement of Krishnamoorthi earlier in the week by another leading progressive group, Citizen Action/Illinois, the state’s largest public interest organization.
“Since 1944, the IVI–IPO has advocated for good government and an ideal of open, honest government in Illinois,” Raja said. “IVI-IPO’s endorsement is a key calling card for progressives like me to show voters that I will fight in Washington to help grow and strengthen the middle class.”
The endorsement follows key recent labor union support of Raja from the Amalgamated Transit Union, the United Steelworkers, the Ironworkers, Machinists, and Airline Pilots unions, along with the endorsement by the National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare. In addition to these groups backing Raja for Congress, Krishnamoorthi received the endorsement last week from Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, as well as recent support from House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer.
The IVI–IPO is a not-for-profit, multi-partisan, independent political organization whose endorsements reach hundreds of thousands of voters throughout the greater Chicago area. The organization’s primary tools are voter registration, voter information and candidate endorsement. The IVI-IPO also pushes for governmental reforms designed to make government more open and better inform the public on the political process.
The son of immigrants, Raja grew up in Illinois. After college and law school, he became policy director for Barack Obama’s successful U.S. Senate campaign. He also served as a founding prosecutor in Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s anti-corruption unit.
IVI-IPO and Citizen Action’s endorsements continue Raja’s strong momentum with less than two months to go until the March 15 election. More than 100 leaders and organizations are endorsing Raja. In addition to Sen. Durbin, House Democratic Leader Pelosi and House Democratic Whip Hoyer, Krishnamoorthi has earned the support of David Axelrod, former Senior Advisor to President Obama and Rep. Jan Schakowsky. Raja for Congress has labor backing from the Amalgamated Transit Union, Air Line Pilots Association, United Steelworkers, International Association of Ironworkers, Ironworkers Local 63, Illinois State Council of Machinists, International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 2, OPEIU Local 45, and Illinois Letter Carriers President Ken Christy.
