Roundtable in Hoffman Estates addresses potential repeal of health law
New Democratic congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi of Schaumburg held a health care policy roundtable in Hoffman Estates Thursday, with a focus on what would happen if the Affordable Care Act were repealed under President Donald Trump and the current Republican-led Congress.
Krishnamoorthi’s office cited figures that a repeal of the federal law would cost the Illinois economy $13 billion.
Roundtable participants included Amita Health Senior Vice President Don Franke, Cook County Health and Hospital System CEO John Jay Shannon and DuPage Health Coalition President Kara Murphy.
Krishnamoorthi, who succeeded Democratic Rep. Tammy Duckworth of Hoffman Estates in January, told the group that his office has been fielding hundreds of calls from constituents concerned about health care, but that at the moment, there are more questions than answers.
Krishnamoorthi said his office has been telling area residents that it’s likely they will get to keep their insurance coverage for the next year even if a repeal of the law is approved.
