‘Willing to Give Trump Some Credit’: IL Dem Calls for Bipartisanship After SOTU
A suburban Chicago Democrat told Neil Cavuto he is hoping Congress can “build on some priorities” shared by his party and President Trump following Tuesday’s State of the Union address.
Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) said he is “willing to give Donald Trump some of the credit” for the economic boom, “just as I am to President Obama for laying the foundation several years ago.”
Krishnamoorthi, who represents Schaumburg and Elgin, said he hopes both parties can work together in the wake of Trump’s speech.
He also reacted to the new tax reform law and the bonuses companies have been awarding to workers in light of their new tax burden.
Krishnamoorthi said he is happy to see companies giving bonuses, but hopes that those organizations will also reflect their tax savings in higher wages.
He added that, in high-tax Illinois, many of his constituents are worried their personal tax liability will not change because Republicans removed the state and local tax (SALT) deduction.
