Congressman Raja’s Op-Ed in Newsweek on the Global Food Crisis
Congressman Raja wrote an op-ed in Newsweek sounding the alarm on the global food crisis caused by Russia’s war on Ukraine and the need for U.S. involvement. Russia and Ukraine together produce about one third of the world’s wheat and barley and nearly half of its sunflower oil. Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian fields and processing facilities, along with its interference in Ukrainian agricultural exports impact millions of people worldwide who depend on Ukraine’s food supply for sustenance. “The U.S. has both a moral and strategic imperative to lead in this crisis and prevent the suffering in Ukraine from spilling over into other countries and regions. A more stable and peaceful world is in everyone’s interest, except for the dictators and autocrats like Putin who thrive on fear, anger, and instability.”
