ALLIANCE FOR RETIRED AMERICANS ENDORSES RAJA FOR CONGRESS
Latest in String of Endorsements from Illinois REALTORS®, Illinois Credit Union League, Human Rights Campaign, and International Association of Fire Fighters
SCHAUMBURG, IL. (September 7, 2016) — Raja Krishnamoorthi picked up another in a string of recent endorsements with the Alliance for Retired Americans backing Krishnamoorthi in this year’s open-seat race in the 8th Congressional District of Illinois that includes the west and northwest suburbs of Chicago.
In a statement endorsing Krishnamoorthi, Richard Fiesta, executive director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, wrote that Raja’s “positions demonstrate a strong commitment to improve the quality of life for older Americans.”
The Alliance for Retired Americans is a nationwide grass roots organization, launched in May 2001, with more than 4.3 million members working together to make their voices heard in the laws, policies, politics, and institutions that shape American life.
“My parents rely on Social Security, so issues facing senior citizens in America are personal to me,” Raja said. “These programs are sacred promises that we have made to our parents and grandparents, and I look forward to working in Washington with the Alliance for Retired Americans to protect and help secure Social Security and Medicare for future generations.”
The latest endorsement follows a wave of groups backing Krishnamoorthi to replace Rep. Tammy Duckworth in Congress, including the Illinois REALTORS®, Illinois Credit Union League, League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, Human Rights Campaign, and International Association of Fire Fighters.
In addition, local mayors from throughout the 8th Congressional District have endorsed Krishnamoorthi, including Independents such as Mayor David Kaptain of Elgin and Village President Dean Argiris of Wheeling.
The son of immigrants, Raja grew up in Illinois. After college and law school, he became issues director for Barack Obama’s successful U.S. Senate campaign. He also served as a founding prosecutor in Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s anti-corruption unit.
A lifelong progressive, Raja is running for Congress to stand up for working families and grow and strengthen the middle class.
