Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Endorses Raja for Congress
Krishnamoorthi builds labor support at rapid pace
SCHAUMBURG, IL (January 7, 2016) – Today, Raja Krishnamoorthi announced the endorsement of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), the largest union representing transit workers in the United States, and the latest in a string of major labor endorsements.
The backing from ATU follows recent endorsements for Raja from other unions and their leaders such as the International Association of Ironworkers, Air Line Pilots Association, Illinois State Council of Machinists, International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 2, Office and Professional Employees’ Union Local 45 and Illinois Letter Carriers’ President Ken Christy. Raja added three labor endorsements from Ironworkers, ALPA and ATU in the past three weeks. ATU’s endorsement also closely follows the recent backing of Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi, a sign of growing momentum for Raja’s campaign.
“The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), the largest International Union representing transit workers in the United States, with nearly 14,000 transit, school bus, and intercity bus members throughout Illinois, is proud to endorse Raja Krishnamoorthi for Congress,” said Lawrence J. Hanley, ATU International President.
“Raja supports a responsible federal infrastructure bank to help fund critical public transportation projects and other transportation needs, especially in suburban areas. As we saw just last month with the passage of a multi-year federal transportation bill, Members of Congress continue to short-change transit. We need people with fresh ideas and the energy to change the way business is done in Washington, and ATU believes that Raja will be a great representative for working families in IL-8.”
