Jesse White Endorses Raja For Congress
Illinois Secretary of State Adds to Momentum for Krishnamoorthi in 8th District of Illinois
SCHAUMBURG, IL. (May 23, 2016) —Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is endorsing Raja Krishnamoorthi in this year’s open-seat race in the 8th Congressional District of Illinois that includes west and northwest Chicago suburbs. Secretary of State White is one of the most popular elected officials in the State of Illinois.
“I know Raja Krishnamoorthi is the best choice for voters because Raja has the experience and vision needed to stand up for middle-class Americans,” White said. “In my tenure as Secretary of State, I have seen the qualities that make for a successful member of Congress, and I know Raja meets and exceeds those qualifications with his remarkable combination of public and private sector experience. He will make an excellent Congressman for the hardworking men and women of the 8th District of Illinois.”
In addition to his decades of public service as an elected official, White founded the internationally known Jesse White Tumbling Team in 1959 to serve as a positive alternative for children residing in and around the Chicago area. Since its inception, more than 16,000 young men and women have performed with the team to help keep themselves away from gangs, drugs, alcohol and smoking. The program has received international praise.
“I am thrilled to have the support of Jesse White, who is a public servant with tremendous popularity,” Krishnamoorthi said of the endorsement. “His leadership has given him a unique perspective into the challenges facing working families on a daily basis, and I am fortunate to have his support and guidance moving forward. Jesse White’s commitment to helping young kids get on the path to success through the Jesse White Tumbling Team is an inspiration.”
The son of immigrants, Raja grew up in Illinois. After college and law school, he became issues director for Barack Obama’s successful U.S. Senate campaign. He also served as a founding prosecutor in Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s anti-corruption unit.
A lifelong progressive, Raja is running for Congress to stand up for middle class families and fight against attempts by House Republicans to cut Social Security and Medicare that are benefits his parents and millions of other Americans rely on.
