Illinois Progressive Champion Julie Hamos Endorses Raja for Congress
Endorsement from former State Representative and Illinois Cabinet Head bolsters Raja’s growing grassroots campaign
Illinois progressive champion Julie Hamos endorsed Raja for Congress. On the heels of Raja’s announcement that his campaign submitted 2,775 signatures or 400% of the minimum required to qualify for the Democratic ballot in Illinois’ 8th District, Raja received a key endorsement to bolster his strong and growing, grassroots campaign.
An ardent advocate for Illinois’ women and the middle class during her long tenure as a state representative and as a former member of Illinois’ cabinet, Hamos said in her endorsement, “Raja Krishnamoorthi is the only choice for 8th District voters looking for a reliable progressive who will fight for Illinois’ women and working families in Washington. With Raja’s deep experience in the public and private sector, he’ll go to Congress with the know-how to deliver policies that help Illinoisans reach and hold on to economic security. Raja’s message is resonating, and he has built an impressive grassroots campaign that has engaged thousands of voters throughout the 8th District. I am proud to endorse Raja for Congress.”
Raja has the support of over 100 leaders and organizations in his bid to succeed Rep. Tammy Duckworth, and has been called the “favorite” and frontrunner” by observers. Raja is endorsed by 16 members of Congress including Rep. Jan Schakowsky, by David Axelrod, and several labor unions including the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Engineers, and the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 2.
Raja is the only candidate in the race with a progressive Working Families Agenda, which includes raising the minimum wage, mandatory overtime pay for workers earning under $50,000 per year, guaranteed paid sick leave and maternity leave, and equal work for equal pay.
